We are proud to unveil three new indoor play spaces that are as imaginative as they are functional at Thomson Elementary School in Washington, DC. These vibrant areas represent a collaboration between the Department of General Services, the school leadership, and our dedicated team, led by project manager Brian Wallace.
Overcoming Challenges with Creativity
Designing these play spaces was no small feat. We faced unique challenges, including space and height limitations, that required innovative solutions. Our team approached these constraints with creativity, ensuring that each area not only meets the students' needs but also enhances their play experience.
Collaboration with BCI Burke Playground Equipment
A critical part of our success was our collaboration with BCI Burke. Their expertise and top-tier equipment were instrumental in bringing our vision to life. Burke provided a wide array of options that met the unique requirements of this project. The play events are designed to maximize fun while ensuring safety and accessibility.
Adding Play Value with Unique Rubber Surfacing
No play area is complete without the right surfacing. Our team collaborated to design a one-of-a-kind rubber surfacing that is as durable as it is eye-catching. The bold colors and intricate patterns do not just look good—they are functional too. With features like trike tracks, four square courts, checkers, and goal lines, this surfacing adds layers of play value, offering endless opportunities for creativity and fun.
A Model for Future Playground Design
Thomson Elementary is setting a new standard for indoor play. By embracing innovation, we have created three spaces that inspire play, encourage physical activity, and support the development of young minds. We are excited to see how these new spaces will impact the students at Thomson Elementary and hope they serve as a model for future playground designs in unique indoor settings.
